A sheriff in Florida released the mugshot and video of an 11-year-old child who was charged with a felony for making a written threat of a mass shooting. This came after the sheriff announced he would start releasing the mugshots of students arrested for making school shooting threats, in response to increased threats in the area. The child, a middle school student from Port Orange, allegedly showed weapons during a video chat with friends and threatened to commit a shooting at his school. The sheriff’s office released the child’s name and video of him being escorted into jail, although NBC News did not show his picture due to his age. The child claimed the threat was a joke, but the sheriff emphasized the seriousness of such incidents. The sheriff’s office also recently arrested two teenagers who posted threats on social media. Authorities recovered airsoft rifles, pistols, fake ammunition, knives, swords, and a list of names from the 11-year-old’s room. The sheriff criticized parents for not raising their children properly, and warned that those who make threats will face serious consequences. The sheriff urged parents and the community to reinforce the seriousness of these offenses to children and to assist in preventing such incidents in the future.
