Former New England Patriots player, Justin Herron, has been charged with assault after allegedly shoving an elderly man at a gym in Rhode Island. The incident occurred at a Gold’s Gym in Pawtucket, where Herron and former teammate, Dan Nwosu, were reportedly working out.
According to reports, the 6-foot-5, 305-pound offensive tackle got into an altercation with a 62-year-old man in the sauna area of the gym. Witnesses claim they saw Herron shove the older man, causing him to fall and hit his head on the ground. The victim was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Herron, 25, was arrested and charged with simple assault and battery. Nwosu, who was with Herron at the time of the incident, was also charged with simple assault. Both men were released on their own recognizance and are due back in court for a pre-trial hearing.
Herron was drafted by the Patriots in the sixth round of the 2020 NFL Draft and played in eight games during his rookie season. He was released by the team in August 2021 and is currently a free agent. The Patriots have not commented on the incident.
This incident is not the first time a former Patriots player has gotten into legal trouble. In 2020, Aaron Hernandez, a former tight end for the team, was found guilty of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison. The Patriots released Hernandez following his arrest in 2013.
Herron’s future in the NFL remains uncertain as he faces legal consequences for his alleged actions. The case is ongoing, and more details are expected to emerge as the investigation continues.
