The city of Kiryat Bialik in northern Israel is preparing for a potential full-blown war with the Hezbollah militant group across the border in Lebanon. After recent cross-border attacks, the city has experienced damage, including blown-out windows and other destruction. Many residents have been displaced and are living in fear. Israel has been responding forcefully to attacks from Hezbollah, resulting in casualties on both sides.
In response to the escalating conflict, Israel has moved patients in the city of Haifa to an underground facility at Rambam Hospital, which was originally built after the 2006 war with Hezbollah. The facility, typically used as a parking lot, now serves as a makeshift hospital with areas for maternity, pediatrics, intensive care, dialysis, and neurosurgery. Patients are receiving necessary treatments, with several babies born in the underground delivery rooms since the move.
Despite the tense situation, hospital director Michael Halberthal remains hopeful that a major war can be avoided. The facility can accommodate up to 8,000 people and is equipped with essential amenities like flushable toilets and showers. Staff members are closely monitoring the situation and coordinating with emergency services to ensure the safety of patients, families, and staff.
The ongoing conflict between Israel and Hezbollah has resulted in widespread displacement and casualties, with both sides facing significant challenges and the looming threat of further escalation. Residents in the affected areas are bracing themselves for the possibility of continued violence and upheaval.
