The Secret Service is increasing security around former President Donald Trump after an apparent assassination attempt on his life. The agency official stated that they are taking a heightened posture in protecting the former president, following an incident at Trump’s golf course in Florida. Federal prosecutors have charged Ryan Wesley Routh, 58, in connection with the attempted assassination in September. Routh, a convicted felon, dropped off a letter declaring his attempt on Trump’s life. He was recently arrested and remains held pending trial.
In response to this incident, Trump is now being accompanied by a Secret Service agent as he travels and has increased security measures in place. Trump plans to return to Butler, Pennsylvania, where he was shot during a campaign rally, on October 5th, just one month before Election Day. The House has also unanimously voted to enhance protection for presidential candidates, giving them the same level of security as sitting presidents. This move comes in light of recent security threats against Trump and highlights the ongoing risks faced by political figures. Trump’s safety and security remain a top priority for the Secret Service and law enforcement agencies as they work to prevent any further attempts on his life.
