A man named James Provost, 59, was fatally attacked by a group of pit bull mixed dogs in Albany, New York. The incident occurred in a backyard where up to nine dogs aggressively mauled Provost. A police officer at the scene shot and killed one of the dogs, causing the others to disperse. The homeowner, who is not the caretaker of the dogs, does not live at the residence where the attack took place. The dogs were taken by the humane society, with some being puppies. Investigations are ongoing to determine if there are grounds for criminal charges in relation to the incident.
Authorities discovered 24 pit bulls at the residence, with some being unlicensed, and it is unclear why there were so many dogs present. Previous suspicions of drug activity at the home led to a search warrant in May, resulting in some dogs being turned over to the humane society. The fate of the dogs involved in Provost’s death, including possible euthanization, will be determined by another authority following the adjudication process. The circumstances surrounding the attack, as well as the reason for the large number of dogs at the residence, are still under investigation.
