A recent national NBC News poll revealed that voters are less likely to support candidates who deny the 2020 election results or who back the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade. Instead, voters are more inclined to support candidates who focus on addressing high costs, particularly in regards to the economy and inflation. This sentiment was echoed across the political spectrum, with popular policies including expanding domestic oil and natural gas production, implementing a $6,000 federal child tax credit, and taxing large corporations to control inflation.
However, not all economic proposals resonated with voters, as tariffs on goods from all countries were less favored. Additionally, election denialism, such as claiming that Trump won the 2020 election, was strongly opposed by a majority of voters, except for Trump’s core base.
In terms of specific policy issues, voters were more likely to support candidates who advocate for deploying the military to the border to combat illegal drugs and human trafficking, as well as increasing deportations of undocumented immigrants. On the topic of abortion, a federal law restoring a nationwide right to abortion was favored by a majority of voters, while support for overturning Roe v. Wade was largely unpopular.
Overall, the poll highlighted the importance of economic policies and voters’ strong opposition to election denialism, with former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris locked in a close race. The survey provides valuable insights into the policy positions that could influence voter support in the upcoming election.
