A 15-year-old teenager was charged with the murder of his parents and three siblings, as well as attempted murder of another sibling who survived the attack at their home in Washington state. The teen, whose identity is protected because he is a minor, was charged with five counts of aggravated murder and one count of attempted murder. The charges were filed as acts of domestic violence, with a firearms enhancement for the attempted murder charge. The teen’s attorneys stated that the law presumes his innocence and described him as a typical teenager with no criminal history. The surviving sibling, an 11-year-old girl, has been discharged from the hospital after the attack. The victims were identified as Mark and Sarah Humiston, who homeschooled their children and were active in the community. The community, as well as Mark’s employer, Hargis Engineers, expressed shock and sadness at the tragedy. During the teen’s court appearance, he waived his right to appear and was ordered not to have contact with the surviving sibling. The motive behind the attack remains unclear, and family members have not been reached for comment. The case has left the community in shock and disbelief, with many struggling to make sense of the senseless loss.
