Sources revealed that phones of Trump, Vance, and Harris campaign affiliates were targeted by China.

A Chinese hacking campaign targeted the phones of Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump and his running mate, Sen. JD Vance, as well as people affiliated with Vice President Kamala Harris’s campaign and the staff of Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer. It is unclear if any communications were stolen. The FBI and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency are investigating the unauthorized access to telecommunications infrastructure by actors affiliated with China. Three American telecommunications companies, including AT&T, Verizon, and Lumen Technologies, were reportedly hacked by a highly sophisticated nation-state actor. China has denied interfering in the U.S. election and it is unknown if the hack was an attempt to influence the 2024 presidential race. Despite U.S. accusations against Iran and Russia for attempting to sway voters, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence has previously stated that China does not seek to influence the presidential election. The reporting on this issue was done by Kevin Collier, Ken Dilanian, and Tom Winter for NBC News, with contribution from Brian Cheung.
