Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced that it is shutting down Firewalk Studios, the developer behind the underperforming live service shooter Concord. Just two months after the game was taken offline and delisted, Sony has made the decision to close the studio permanently.
In a statement, SIE expressed that the PvP first-person shooter genre is highly competitive, and unfortunately, Concord did not meet expectations. Despite exploring other options, the decision was made to sunset the game and shut down Firewalk Studios.
Additionally, SIE will also be closing mobile game studio Neon Koi. The company plans to find placements within its own studios for those affected by the closures.
This news comes as a disappointment to many, especially those who worked at Firewalk and Neon Koi. However, SIE believes that these decisions are necessary to strengthen the organization and focus on advancing their live service capabilities for future growth.
With Concord now officially being shut down and players unable to access the game, it seems that the possibility of it returning as a free-to-play title is no longer on the table. This move reflects Sony’s commitment to learning from their experiences with Concord and improving their live service offerings in the future.
