A police officer and a suspected shooter were injured during a shooting incident at a Midtown Atlanta building occupied by a Four Seasons hotel and residences. The officer sustained non-life-threatening injuries while the suspect’s injuries were not specified. The suspect fired multiple shots from a residence on the 33rd floor using multiple guns. Two officers returned fire, and the suspect was eventually taken into custody after a standoff.
Police responded to a dispute between a Four Seasons worker and the suspect on the 33rd floor, leading to negotiations and a weapon being thrown from the balcony. The 33rd floor was evacuated, and nearby floors were sealed off during the incident. Traffic in the area was halted.
The suspect, who was wearing what appeared to be a gas mask, will be investigated for alleged aggravated assault. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation will also investigate officers’ response due to the use of force. A shelter-in-place order was initially issued but later lifted, with the suspect in custody.
The building consists of the Four Seasons hotel, residences, and office space. The incident resulted in more than 15 shots being fired. The Mayor and Police Chief commended the officers for their bravery in handling the situation without loss of life. Further investigations into the incident are ongoing.
