The Providence College volleyball team is gearing up for two BIG EAST matches at Alumni Hall in Providence, R.I. The Friars will be taking on UConn on Wednesday, Oct. 30 at 6:00 p.m. and Butler on Friday, Nov. 1 at 5:00 p.m.
The Friars, with a 7-14 record and 0-10 in the BIG EAST, will be looking to turn their season around after recent defeats to DePaul and Xavier. Leading the charge for Providence is Shaliyah Rhoden with 229 kills, while Kayla Grant boasts 73 blocks and a .330 hitting percentage.
UConn comes into the weekend with an 18-4 record and 6-4 in the BIG EAST, led by graduate student Taylor Pannell and freshman McKenna Brand. Meanwhile, Butler, with a 5-17 record and 3-7 in the BIG EAST, will be relying on senior Abby Maesch and freshman Lauren Evans.
The Friars are set to hit the road next weekend to face Georgetown and Seton Hall. They will play Georgetown on Friday, Nov. 8 in Washington, D.C., and Seton Hall on Saturday, Nov. 9 in South Orange, N.J.
Individual players from the Friars have received recognition for their performances, including Kayla Grant being named the Friar Volleyball Classic Most Valuable Player and appearing on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll. Miller McDonald and other players have also earned awards and honors throughout the season.
