Valencia Massacre Claims the Lives of 95 Victims

Severe flooding in Spain, particularly in the city of Valencia, has caused widespread damage and led to dramatic rescue efforts by emergency services. Videos shared on social media showed streets submerged in mud-colored water and people being airlifted to safety, including a woman and her pets. Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez expressed solidarity with those still searching for loved ones and pledged to help rebuild the devastated villages and cities. The state weather agency declared a red alert in Valencia, where nearly 8 inches of rainfall disrupted transportation infrastructure. This is the deadliest flooding in Spain since 1996, when 87 people died in a similar event near the Pyrenees mountains. The town of Chiva, near Valencia, received an entire year’s worth of rain, over 19 inches, in just eight hours. The situation remains dire as emergency services work to rescue people and assess the extent of the damage caused by the severe weather.
