Game Recap: Men’s Soccer Match Against St. John’s


The 25th-ranked Providence College men’s soccer team is set to face off against St. John’s in the BIG EAST Championship Semifinals on Thursday, November 14th. Providence secured their spot in the semis after defeating UConn 2-0 in the Quarterfinals, with goals from Israel Neto and Bruno Rosa. The Friars also clinched the BIG EAST East Division Co-Champion title by defeating Xavier 1-0 in their final regular-season match.

Providence enters the semifinals with a 10-4-3 record and is currently on a four-game win streak, including three shutout wins. They are led by junior Bruno Rosa, who has 15 points, and graduate student Israel Neto, who has scored three goals in the last four games.

In addition to their on-field success, Providence had five players earn All-BIG EAST honors for their standout performances during the regular season. Goalkeeper Lukas Burns was named BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week after recording seven shutouts this season.

Head coach Craig Stewart, in his 13th season with the Friars, has led the team to nine BIG EAST Championship appearances and five NCAA Tournament berths. Stewart has a stellar coaching record, with 126 wins at Providence and 176 overall in his coaching career.

St. John’s, the No. 3 seed in the BIG EAST Championship, will pose a tough challenge for Providence. The Red Storm are on a three-game win streak and feature top scorers Miguelo Diaz, Nigel Griffith, and Martin Kozack.

The BIG EAST Championship Semifinal match between Providence and St. John’s will be broadcast live on the BIG EAST Digital Network, allowing fans to tune in and watch the exciting clash between these two top teams.
