G7 Supports Ukraine’s Efforts to End War in 2022, Says Zelenskyy | Latest Updates on Russia-Ukraine Conflict

Amid ongoing conflict with Russia, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has expressed hope that the war will end in 2025 through diplomatic means. The G7 alliance has pledged continued support for Ukraine, with leaders stating they will stand by the country for as long as necessary. Zelenskyy believes that the re-election of Donald Trump as US president could lead to a quicker resolution of the conflict, as Trump has expressed a desire to end the war immediately.

In a recent conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Zelenskyy reiterated Ukraine’s position that any agreement must not involve surrendering Ukrainian territory lost during the conflict. Putin has also stated that any agreement must address the root causes of the conflict, including NATO expansion.

As all sides prepare for the potential impacts of a Trump presidency on the conflict, the G7 has reaffirmed its commitment to imposing severe costs on Russia through sanctions and other measures. The group consists of the US, the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and Canada, with Italy currently holding the rotating presidency.

Zelenskyy has acknowledged the difficult situation in eastern Ukraine, where Russian forces are making advances. Russia is advancing at the fastest rate since the war began in 2022, with North Korea reportedly sending soldiers to help Moscow fight off a Ukrainian incursion. The Russian Ministry of Defence has reported downing drones and attacking aircraft in various regions, including Kursk. Ukraine is seeking increased Western support and weapons as it braces for the potential impacts of a new US administration under Trump in January.
