Israel has intensified its air attacks in Lebanon as ground forces pushed deeper into the country before pulling back after clashes with Hezbollah fighters. The strikes have led to casualties and destruction in various areas of Lebanon, including the killing of medics and the targeting of Hezbollah infrastructure. Hezbollah has retaliated by firing missiles towards Israel, resulting in casualties on both sides.
The conflict escalated after almost a year of tensions between Israel and Hezbollah, as well as the Gaza war. Israeli military chief Herzi Halevi has stated that the offensive will continue until displaced Israelis can safely return to the north. Meanwhile, US officials have presented a proposal for a ceasefire, which Lebanon is considering while seeking solutions with Iranian support.
Despite these diplomatic efforts, Israeli officials remain skeptical of ceasefire deals and have emphasized the need for security along the border. Both sides have sustained significant casualties, with thousands dead and wounded in Lebanon and about 100 casualties in northern Israel from Hezbollah attacks.
The situation remains tense as airstrikes, missile attacks, and ground combat continue to plague the region. The conflict has displaced many residents, caused widespread destruction, and raised concerns about the humanitarian crisis in Lebanon. Efforts towards a ceasefire and negotiations for a peaceful resolution are underway, but the situation remains precarious with no clear end in sight.
