Newborn Sloth at Roger Williams Park Zoo: A Heartwarming Addition
PROVIDENCE, R.I. — The Roger Williams Park Zoo is thrilled to announce the birth of a Linne’s two-toed sloth named Scout, born to mother Fiona and father Westley. While the gender of the newborn sloth has yet to be determined, both mother and baby are reported to be healthy and bonding well. In a recent social media update, zoo officials praised Fiona, stating, “Fiona is an excellent momma, and they are bonding beautifully.”
Scout and Fiona are expected to make their public debut soon in the zoo’s Faces of the Rainforest exhibit, where visitors can engage with the pair. This joyous announcement comes on the heels of a tragic incident three months ago, when another Linne’s two-toed sloth, named Nicko, unexpectedly passed away from a respiratory infection. Nicko was born to first-time mom Beanie, who had welcomed him into the world just four years prior.
The addition of Scout not only uplifts spirits at the zoo but also serves to educate the community about sloths and their natural behaviors. The zoo encourages animal lovers to visit Fiona and Scout once they are on display, continuing its commitment to wildlife conservation and public education.
For updates on Scout’s development and other zoo news, the Roger Williams Park Zoo invites everyone to follow their social media channels. With this new birth, the zoo reinforces its role as a vital resource for animal care and education in the community.
