Warwick Police Confirm Identification of Remains as Missing Woman Charlotte Lester; Suspect Arrested
Warwick, RI – In a tragic turn of events, the Warwick Police Department announced on Wednesday that the remains of Charlotte Lester, reported missing since May 16, 2022, have been discovered in Exeter. Authorities confirmed that the remains were positively identified through medical examiner testing.
Mark Perkins, who has been regarded as a key suspect throughout the investigation, has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder. Police indicated that Perkins, who did not plead during his court appearance on Wednesday and remains held without bail, has an ongoing case in superior court.
The discovery of Lester’s remains was facilitated by a hunter earlier this week. Deputy Chief Commander Micheal Lima expressed condolences to Lester’s family and friends, emphasizing the emotional toll this news brings. He stated, "The Warwick Police Department is saddened to announce that human remains have been found and have been positively identified as belonging to Charlotte Lester."
Perkins was apprehended at a Cumberland Farms location, and police have previously searched his residence, known to be frequented by Lester. The duo had a past relationship, described by officials as "companions."
Lester, 44, from East Greenwich, was last seen in Apponaug, with her abandoned dog found in Providence and her truck recovered at Kent Hospital shortly thereafter. The police credit their Detective Division and community members for their significant contributions to the investigation. Lima reaffirmed the department’s commitment to seeking justice for Charlotte Lester and urged anyone with additional information to contact Warwick police at 401-468-4200.
