Rhode Island Dominates, Defeats River Hawks 81-35

The UMass Lowell women’s basketball team suffered a tough loss to Rhode Island, with Senior Alex Gitchenko leading the team with eight points. Despite a solid first half where the team showed good energy and execution, they ultimately fell to a talented URI team. Gitchenko had a season high in points and minutes, while Maddie Rice, Sydney Watkins, and Rayne Durant all contributed seven points each. Despite outshooting the Rams from behind the three-point line, UMass Lowell struggled to keep up with Rhode Island’s scoring in the second half. The Rams pulled ahead early and maintained their lead throughout the game, ultimately winning 81-35.

Looking ahead, the River Hawks will travel to Indianapolis to face Butler on November 24. Head Coach Denise King praised the team’s effort and energy in the first half, emphasizing the need for mental fortitude and push-through to compete at a high level. While the loss was disappointing, the team showed promise in certain aspects of their game, which they will look to build on in future matches. Overall, UMass Lowell remains determined to improve and compete at a high level as the season progresses.
