The University of Richmond women’s soccer team suffered a tough 6-0 loss against Rhode Island, dropping their record to 3-6-2 on the season. The Rams improved to 5-5-2 with the win. Goals for Rhode Island came from Courtney Poon, Tierra Garniss, an own goal, Mie Carstensen, and Cristina Sallent. The Rams dominated the game from the early minutes, scoring in the 11th minute and continuing to apply offensive pressure. Richmond’s goalkeeper, McKenna Dalfonso, made eight saves throughout the game. The Spiders had opportunities to score with shots from Marisa Snee, Kathryn Lennon, Anna Garcia, Abby Dillon, and Brigitte Bussiere.
Despite their efforts, the Spiders were unable to find the back of the net, ending the game with 11 shots, eight on target, and two corner kicks. The team will aim to bounce back in their next match against Loyola Chicago, scheduled for Sunday at 2 p.m. The upcoming game will also serve as the Mental Health Awareness Game for the Spiders. Head coach, Jody Karam, will be looking for a strong performance from his team as they aim to improve their record and secure a victory in their next matchup.
