WLNE and URI Partner to Broadcast Football and Basketball Games

Rhode Island Athletics and WLNE have announced a new partnership that will see linear broadcasts of URI football and basketball games for the 2024-25 season. This three-year deal will see WLNE’s MeTV pick up URI’s production for five home football games and most home basketball games for both the men’s and women’s teams. The production will be handled by the Athletic Department in collaboration with URI’s Harrington School of Communications.

Rhode Island Director of Athletics Thorr Bjorn and WLNE General Manager Charlie Henrich worked closely to finalize the partnership. URI’s Harrington School students, led by Athletics Multimedia Coordinator Dave Walzer, will handle the production. The partnership not only expands viewership of football and basketball games within the state but also showcases the talents of the Harrington School students.

Director of Athletics Thorr Bjorn expressed excitement about the partnership, noting the improvement in the quality of content produced by the university’s students. The deal allows MeTV to carry linear broadcasts, while CAA Football games will remain on FloFootball.com and basketball games on ESPN+.

The collaboration between URI Athletics and WLNE marks a significant step in increasing the visibility of Rhode Island’s sports programs and providing valuable hands-on experience to students in the Harrington School of Communications. The partnership highlights the university’s commitment to excellence both on and off the field.
