Israeli aircraft struck Hezbollah weapons smuggling sites along Syria’s border with Lebanon, according to the Israeli military. The strikes were in response to violations of a ceasefire that had been in place for a few days, halting months of fighting. There was no comment from Syrian authorities or Hezbollah. Israeli aircraft have targeted Hezbollah sites in Lebanon multiple times since the ceasefire began, citing violations.
The ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah does not address the ongoing conflict in Gaza. On Saturday, an Israeli strike killed five people in a car, including three employees of the food charity World Central Kitchen (WCK). The Israeli military said the strike targeted a militant involved in an attack by Hamas. However, WCK denied any involvement and the car was unmarked.
WCK workers killed in previous Israeli strikes in April were also mentioned. The current ceasefire, brokered by the US and France, requires the militants to withdraw north of Lebanon’s Litani River and Israeli forces to return to their side of the border. Violent incidents have occurred, but with no serious casualties reported.
Lebanese civilians were seen returning to their homes despite warnings from both Israeli and Lebanese militaries. An Israeli drone attack in a southern village injured three people, including a child. Israeli forces will gradually withdraw from southern Lebanon over the 60-day period as part of the ceasefire agreement. Military operations have been conducted to locate and seize hidden weapons, including those found in a mosque.
