A man named Raj Sidpara has been sentenced to life in prison with a minimum term of 21 years for the murder of his girlfriend, Tarnjeet Riaz. Sidpara was convicted of punching, kicking, and stamping on Riaz before falling asleep and leaving her to die. The court heard that Riaz had extensive trauma to her face, broken ribs, and bleeding on the brain when she was found unresponsive at Sidpara’s home. Sidpara, who had pleaded guilty to manslaughter but denied murder, was described by the judge as attacking Riaz in a “savage and merciless way” with no remorse.
Riaz’s brother, Balraj Chagger, expressed his devastation at the loss of his sister, stating that she had always been there for her family and was only seeking love in return. He criticized Sidpara for his cowardly and violent actions, which cost Riaz her life and shattered their family forever.
Detective Inspector Emma Matts, the senior investigating officer in the case, highlighted the importance of recognizing and addressing domestic abuse. She emphasized that victims should seek help and support from helplines such as the national domestic abuse helpline in the UK or the domestic violence hotline in the US.
The tragic case serves as a reminder of the devastating impact of domestic violence and the need for society to raise awareness and provide support for those affected by such crimes. The sentencing of Sidpara brings some justice for Riaz’s family, but their pain and questions will linger as they mourn the loss of their loved one.
