Oregon claims top spot, while Alabama misses out on bracket

The College Football Playoff has expanded to 12 teams this season, with Oregon, Georgia, Boise State, and Arizona State earning the top-four seeds and first-round byes. The selection committee chose the five highest-ranked conference champions and seven at-large teams, with only the top four conference champions eligible for a top-four seed. The final top-25 rankings differ from the seedings.

The bracket includes Oregon as the top seed, followed by Georgia, Boise State, and Arizona State. Teams like Texas, Penn State, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Tennessee, Indiana, SMU, and Clemson also made the playoff. SMU earned a spot despite losing the conference championship to Clemson in a last-second upset.

The playoff will start with a first round between teams seeded 5-12 at the home stadiums of the higher-seeded at-large teams on Dec. 20-21. The quarterfinals will be hosted at the Fiesta Bowl, Rose Bowl, Peach Bowl, and Sugar Bowl on Dec. 31 and Jan. 1. Semifinals will be on Jan. 9-10 at the Cotton Bowl and Orange Bowl, with the championship game on Jan. 20 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.

The playoff matchups include Clemson at Texas, Indiana at Notre Dame, SMU at Penn State, and Tennessee at Ohio State in the first round. The winners will advance to face the top-four seeds, with Ohio State-Tennessee winner playing Oregon, Indiana-Notre Dame winner facing Georgia, SMU-Penn State winner against Boise State, and Clemson-Texas winner taking on Arizona State.
