Live coverage of suspect arraigned on firearm and forgery charges in UnitedHealthcare CEO shooting case | Brian Thompson shooting

Luigi Nicholas Mangione, the suspect in the killing of UnitedHealthcare’s CEO, has been arraigned on firearm and forgery charges in Pennsylvania. Mangione was arrested at a McDonald’s in Altoona on Monday morning. The 26-year-old suspect was charged with forgery, carrying firearms without a license, tampering with records or identification, possessing an instrument of crime, and providing false identification to law enforcement.

Authorities found a manifesto document on Mangione mentioning UnitedHealthcare by name and detailing the size and income of the company. Mangione was captured after being spotted at the McDonald’s by an employee who believed he resembled the gunman. Police found a 3D-printed pistol and silencer in his backpack, along with a loaded magazine and cash.

During the press conference, it was mentioned that Mangione is not cooperating with authorities, and they are analyzing electronic devices found on him. The police are trying to retrace his steps in New York and Pennsylvania to determine if there are any other accomplices or targets. Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro confirmed that Mangione will soon face charges in New York as well.

Shapiro condemned the killing of UnitedHealthcare’s CEO and emphasized that the suspect’s actions should not be celebrated. He reminded the public that violence is not an acceptable way to express frustrations with the healthcare system. The arrest was described as peaceful by Altoona police, who praised the individual who recognized Mangione and alerted law enforcement.
