Common Cause Rhode Island has filed a complaint with the Public Information Office of Secretary of State Gregg Amore, seeking sanctions against Michael Magee for failing to register as a lobbyist in Rhode Island. This comes after investigations into the awarding of a state contract to the ILO Group, LLC revealed unethical behavior. Common Cause Rhode Island is also calling for stricter limits on gifts to public officials from lobbyists and plans to introduce legislation in the upcoming session of the Rhode Island General Assembly to strengthen campaign finance laws. Executive Director John Marion stated that the state’s public integrity laws failed to protect against the unethical behavior, and changes are needed to prevent such actions in the future.
