North Kingstown residents were taken aback on Friday night when a gas odor led to the evacuation of the local Walmart. Firefighters were called to the scene at 5:30 p.m. to investigate the source of the smell, eventually narrowing it down to the bakery and meat section. It was determined that the HVAC system was to blame for the issue. Thankfully, no injuries were reported as a result of the odor. Walmart technicians were quick to respond and were able to secure the system and make the necessary repairs. Customers and workers were able to return to the store once it was deemed safe. This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of promptly addressing potential hazards in commercial spaces to ensure the safety and well-being of all those present.
