VCU Women’s Basketball faced a tough loss against the University of Rhode Island with a final score of 64-50 at the Siegel Center. Despite winning three of their last four games against A-10 opponents, the VCU Rams struggled offensively throughout the game. The matchup was part of VCU’s “Who Run the World? Girls!” game, celebrating and supporting women in sports.

Rhode Island took an early lead in the first quarter and maintained control throughout the game. VCU had difficulty scoring and fell behind, with Rhode Island leading 31-20 at halftime. While VCU showed a sense of urgency in the second half, Rhode Island continued to extend their lead.

Despite a strong offensive effort from VCU in the fourth quarter, led by Zoli Khalil’s 20 points, it was not enough to overcome Rhode Island’s consistent scoring. The game ended with a final score of 64-50 in favor of Rhode Island.

Khalil’s performance was a highlight of the game, marking her highest-scoring game of her career. VCU will look to bounce back in their next game against the University of Massachusetts Minutewomen at the Siegel Center on Saturday, Jan. 25 at 1 p.m. Coach Beth O’Boyle praised her team’s resilience and the players’ role as ambassadors for VCU.
