Fourth American prisoner-hostage exchange

Two hostages, Yarden Bibas and Ofer Kalderon, have arrived in southern Israel and are set to be reunited with their families at the hospital. However, the fate of Bibas’ wife, Shiri, and their two young children, Ariel and Kfir, taken hostage with them, remains unclear. Hamas claims they were killed in an Israeli airstrike, but the Bibas family hopes they are still alive and will be released.

The handover of the hostages was organized in Khan Younis in a choreographed manner, a contrast to previous chaos. The Red Cross was involved in ensuring an orderly exchange, and two of the three hostages are on their way back to Israel, with the third expected to follow soon. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office has assured support for the released hostages and their families.

The Israeli military confirmed the handover of the two hostages, while American Keith Siegel was identified as one of the hostages to be released by Hamas. Siegel, originally from North Carolina, was taken during the same attack as Bibas and Kalderon in October 2023. The release of these hostages marks the fourth hostage-prisoner exchange between Hamas and Israel.
