Ontario announced that it will remove all American alcohol from government-run liquor shelves in response to President Trump’s 25% tariffs on Canadian imports. Premier Doug Ford stated that the LCBO will also stop listing U.S. products in its catalog to prevent other retailers from restocking them. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has imposed retaliatory tariffs on $155 billion of U.S. goods. The LCBO is a major wholesaler of alcohol in Ontario, selling over 1.1 billion liters in 2023. Canada primarily imports hard liquor from America, with an estimated $320 million in sales. LCBO will halt all sales of U.S. alcohol products indefinitely in stores and online, as they are the importer of record for American alcohol in Ontario. This decision follows similar actions taken by other Canadian provinces, with Nova Scotia and British Columbia also removing American alcohol from their shelves. Ford encouraged consumers to choose Ontario-made or Canadian-made products instead.
