UNC Health, one of the largest healthcare systems in the southeast, is expanding its use of Abridge AI technology to improve the patient and clinician experience. After a successful year-long pilot evaluation, UNC Health has selected Abridge as its enterprise-wide solution for ambient AI-powered documentation.
The implementation of Abridge’s speech recognition technology across its network of clinicians in North Carolina is set to begin in early February. This innovative solution automatically detects care settings, medical specialties, and languages to generate real-time documentation. It also utilizes auditable AI to map clinical notes to verified conversation-based data and integrates with leading electronic health record systems to streamline workflows and optimize provider efficiency.
Dr. Sachin Gupta, Chief Medical Officer for the UNC Physicians Network, believes that Abridge represents a transformative advancement in clinical technology and will serve as the foundation for future innovations. He emphasized UNC Health’s commitment to enhancing both provider and patient experiences while prioritizing patient safety and privacy protections. Clinicians who prefer not to use the system can opt out.
By reducing administrative burdens and allowing clinicians to focus more on patient care, this integration of Abridge AI marks a significant step in advancing healthcare efficiency and provider well-being at UNC Health. The implementation of this technology reflects UNC Health’s dedication to improving the overall healthcare experience for both patients and providers.
