Duquesne Women’s Basketball Outperforms and Dominates Rhode Island

The Duquesne Women’s Basketball Team claimed victory with a 77-64 win over Rhode Island at UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse, marking their first home win in Atlantic 10 play. Led by Megan McConnell’s 19 points and nine rebounds, the Dukes dominated the game, executing the game plan and shooting well from beyond the arc. Jerni Kiaku added 18 points and Gabby Hutcherson contributed 12, all in the first half. Andjela Matic also chipped in with 10 points.

Despite Rhode Island’s efforts, with Ines Debroise leading with 19 points, Duquesne maintained their lead throughout the game. The Dukes had a total of 12 made three-point shots, their 10th double-figure total of the season. Anaelle Dutat achieved a double-double for the Rams with 13 points and 11 rebounds, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Duquesne’s strong performance.

The Dukes started strong, building a lead early on and maintaining it throughout the game. They led by 24 points at halftime and continued to extend their lead into the fourth quarter. Coach Dan Burt praised the team’s focus and preparation leading up to the game, emphasizing the importance of every conference matchup.

The win over Rhode Island sets Duquesne up for their next game against La Salle on Wednesday. The team is focused on continuing their success and building on their momentum as they navigate the challenges of the Atlantic 10 conference. With a young and inexperienced team, the Dukes are determined to keep pushing forward and maintaining their competitive edge.
