Former Rhode Island Man Sentenced to 10 Years in Federal Prison for Meth Trafficking
Carl Sharp, a 49-year-old former Rhode Island resident, has been sentenced to an additional ten years in federal prison for trafficking multiple kilos of methamphetamine. Sharp, now living in Peoria, Arizona, pleaded guilty to distributing 50 grams or more of methamphetamine and was sentenced to 120 months of incarceration followed by five years of federal supervised release.
This is not Sharp’s first run-in with the law, as he was previously convicted and incarcerated on charges related to drug trafficking, domestic violence, and assault. He also faced a murder charge in the past but was acquitted after a key witness died.
United States Attorney Zachary Cunha expressed satisfaction with the sentencing, highlighting Sharp’s dangerous criminal history. Sharp was previously accused of mailing methamphetamine and cocaine through the U.S. Postal Service, further fueling his reputation as a career offender. This latest sentencing serves as a reminder of the consequences of drug trafficking and criminal activities.
