Brave New World Anticipates $90 Million Opening

The Marvel Studios film, Captain America: Brave New World, has had an impressive opening at the box office, raking in an estimated $40 million on its Friday debut. Despite receiving a B- CinemaScore from audiences, the film is on track to earn between $90 million and $96 million over the Valentine’s Day/Presidents Day weekend, making it one of the top showings ever for the holiday. While the film is skewing towards a male audience, it has been well-received by critics and viewers, boasting a 79 percent audience ranking on Rotten Tomatoes. Overseas, the film is also expected to perform well, aiming to collect $100 million in total.

The movie marks Marvel Studios’ attempt to reboot the Captain America franchise with a new cast and storyline. It follows Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson as he takes up the mantle of Captain America, previously held by Chris Evans. Directed by Julius Onah, the film also features Harrison Ford as U.S. President Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross.

Overall, Marvel Studios is hoping for Captain America: Brave New World to be a solid success after facing challenges with previous films. The movie, with a budget of around $180 million, stays away from sci-fi elements and multiverses, focusing on a grounded action film similar to Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

In comparison to other films released on the same weekend, Captain America is expected to outperform and continue Marvel Studios’ recent string of successful movies.
