‘Brave New World’ on track to hit $100 million during holiday weekend

“Captain America: Brave New World” had a strong opening weekend at the North American box office, bringing in $88.5 million in ticket sales. The film is Marvel’s first major release since last summer and features Anthony Mackie as the new Captain America. Despite poor reviews, the movie was well-received by audiences, with an 80% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. The film is predicted to reach $100 million domestically and $192.4 globally. Its production cost was $180 million. The weekend also saw the release of “Paddington in Peru” earning $13 million and “Heart Eyes” in third place with $10 million. The Chinese blockbuster “Ne Zha 2” rounded out the top five with $7.2 million. Additionally, a new “Bridget Jones” movie went straight to streaming in the U.S. and made $14.9 million in the U.K. and Ireland. The box office is up 20% from last year, showing that audiences still have a strong interest in seeing superhero movies on the big screen. The success of “Captain America: Brave New World” signals a positive outlook for upcoming Marvel releases, including “Thunderbolts” in May and “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” in July. The film is positioned between “Guardians of the Galaxy” and “Thor: The Dark World” in terms of box office performance, and is noted for its cost-effective production compared to other big budget Marvel movies.
