Kentucky devastated by deadly flooding, upcoming storm to bring snow and frigid temperatures


A winter storm is expected to hit the U.S. this week, bringing snow to Kentucky after devastating flooding killed 11 people. Winter alerts are in place for 34 million people from the central Plains to West Virginia. The storm will move across the Rockies and bring snow to Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Tennessee, Virginia, and North Carolina. Two pockets of enhanced snowfall are expected, with up to 12 inches in some areas. Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear warned of standing water, closed roads, and ongoing rescue efforts. Over 14,000 customers are without power and 17,000 without water in Kentucky. The storm could disrupt recovery efforts from the floods. President Trump has approved disaster relief funding for the state. Locals are advised not to drive through flooded roadways and to seek shelter in emergency shelters. Meanwhile, a cold outbreak is affecting 55 million people from the Canadian border to central Texas, with wind chills as cold as 30 to 50 below zero in some areas. The Great Lakes and Upper Midwest are also experiencing wind chills of 10 to 20 below zero.
