14 now dead in Kentucky storms, more winter weather on the way

Over the weekend, devastating storms in Kentucky led to a death toll of 14, including two people who died from hypothermia. Governor Andy Beshear expressed concern about more winter weather approaching, with a winter storm expected to bring heavy snow and wind across the region. The storm is set to bring significant snow accumulation to central and southern Kentucky, potentially causing hazardous travel conditions and disrupting recovery efforts for the floods. Almost 4,500 utility customers are still without power in the state, prompting Beshear to encourage those affected to head to shelters if they cannot safely heat their homes before the storm hits. Water rescues from floods are expected to decrease as the focus shifts to clearing roads for the approaching winter storm. The governor’s biggest concern is people getting stranded in freezing temperatures, and he is urging residents to take necessary precautions to stay safe during the severe weather conditions.
