Cranston Woman Recovers After Windshield Shattered by Ice on I-95

A Cranston woman is lucky to be alive after a frightening incident on Interstate 95 involving a sheet of ice that flew off a truck and smashed through her windshield, hitting her in the face and chest. Dan DeCesare and his wife JoAnn were driving south on I-95 when a large chunk of ice flew off a tractor-trailer ahead of them due to a gust of wind. JoAnn suffered chest contusions, a split lip, a head injury, and bruising, but fortunately, doctors did not find signs of a concussion or broken bones. The truck driver admitted that his company only cleans the top of the truck and not the sides, which may have led to the incident. Two other vehicles on the same stretch of I-95 were also struck by ice that morning. Rhode Island law requires drivers to clear snow and ice from their vehicles before driving, as failing to do so can result in fines and serious injuries. DeCesare is urging drivers to take the time to clear ice from their vehicles to prevent similar incidents from occurring. Authorities are investigating the incident.
