Rebecca Auborn, an Ohio sex worker, has been found competent to stand trial for charges including murder, aggravated robbery, and felonious assault after allegedly drugging four customers to death and attempting to kill a fifth. Auborn pleaded not guilty to the nearly 30 crimes she was indicted for in October 2023. The judge’s ruling on her competency came after a forensic evaluation was done in June, requested by Auborn’s lawyer.
The victims who allegedly died from being drugged with fentanyl by Auborn are Wayne Akin, Robert Snoke, Joseph Crumpler, and Guy Renda Jr. A fifth victim survived an attempted overdose in December. Christyn Crockett, daughter of Wayne Akin, expressed relief at the ruling, stating that a fair trial could now begin, though she mentioned that the family will not be able to relax until the legal proceedings are over.
The judge’s ruling paves the way for a potential trial date to be set, but it is unclear when that will happen. Auborn’s defense attorney did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The case has garnered attention for the shocking nature of the allegations and the tragic deaths of the victims involved.
