In a hard-fought battle, the Saint Joseph’s women’s basketball team fell to Rhode Island with a final score of 70-65. Rhian Stokes and Laura Ziegler led the Hawks with 15 points each, while Mackenzie Smith added 11 points in the defeat. Rhode Island’s Harsimran Kaur led all scorers with 19 points.
The game featured five lead changes and seven ties in the first half, with the Hawks overcoming turnovers to shoot over 50% from the field. Saint Joseph’s led by six in the fourth quarter before going cold, allowing Rhode Island to come back and secure the win.
Despite the loss, Stokes impressed with a career-high performance, Ziegler contributed nine assists, and Smith reached 500 career rebounds. The Hawks shot well from the field and behind the arc, but Rhode Island’s shooting efficiency ultimately won the game.
Looking ahead, the Hawks will face George Mason at Hagan Arena on February 23, with tip-off set for 4 p.m. on ESPNU.
