A man, Joseph Fragata, has been charged with arson after a large fire broke out at the Misty Harbor Condominiums in Newport, Rhode Island. The fire, which caused extensive damage to the complex, was started using an accelerant near the origin of the blaze. Fragata, who has a criminal history in Massachusetts, was arrested at his home in Portsmouth. Fortunately, no one was injured in the fire, but the building is now uninhabitable.
Six people, including two children, were able to escape the flames. Neighbors of the complex described the devastation as being beyond repair, with one person stating that the first units in the complex were completely destroyed. Fragata is scheduled for arraignment on Friday, and investigations are ongoing. The community is left to pick up the pieces after this tragic incident.
