Little Compton, Rhode Island, is famous for hosting “The World’s Shortest St. Paddy’s Day Parade,” a fun event that includes floats, animals, dancers, and music along the 89-feet route on Main Street in downtown Adamsville. Last year’s celebration drew thousands of attendees, and this year’s parade is part of the town’s 350th-anniversary celebration. However, organizers of a similar event in Hot Springs, Arkansas, claim their 98-feet parade is the shortest St. Patrick’s Day parade.
Despite the friendly rivalry, both teams plan to support each other and raise funds for charity. The Little Compton parade raised $20,000 for local food banks last year and aims to exceed that amount this year, including donations to McAuley House in Providence.
Both sides are looking forward to this year’s festivities, with Little Compton’s parade scheduled for 3 p.m. the day before St. Patrick’s Day. The communities are focused on having fun and supporting a good cause, regardless of who holds the title of the world’s shortest parade.
