Brown University graduate Ross Worthington has been tasked with writing President Donald Trump’s speech for his address to a joint session of Congress tonight. However, not all members of Rhode Island’s all-Democratic congressional delegation will be in attendance.
US Senator Sheldon Whitehouse will be skipping Trump’s address and gave his tickets to Henry Kinch, the executive director of the Joint Committee on Legislative Services in Rhode Island. The other three members of the delegation will be attending, with US Senator Jack Reed giving his guest ticket to a Democratic colleague.
On the House side, US Representatives Seth Magaziner and Gabe Amo are taking a different approach. Magaziner is bringing Alison Croke, the executive director of Wood River Health, to highlight the role of Medicaid in Rhode Island’s healthcare landscape. Amo is bringing Joan M. Woods, CEO of John Clarke Senior Living, to draw attention to the impact of potential Medicaid cuts on residents.
Trump’s address will air live on all news networks at 9 p.m. This story first appeared in Rhode Map, a newsletter about Rhode Island events and news. Dan McGowan can be reached at dan.mcgowan@globe.com for more information.
