Eastern Kentucky University suffered a tough doubleheader sweep against Rhode Island at Earle Combs Stadium. In the first game, URI took the lead early and sealed the win with a strong ninth inning, including a 3-run home run from Eric Genther. EKU fought back with Mauri Bejarano and Hayden Duffield contributing, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Rhode Island’s lead. In the second game, URI continued their dominance, scoring six runs in the fifth inning. EKU made a late comeback attempt with home runs from Nazir Mendez and Julius Scearce, but fell just short with a final score of 8-6.
Despite the losses, Diego Alan, Mendez, and Scearce put up strong performances for EKU. Rhode Island’s DJ Perron was a standout player with a bases clearing double in game two. URI’s pitchers, Trystan Levesque and Jake Cullen, also stood out with solid performances on the mound. EKU will look to bounce back in their next game against Northern Kentucky.
