Lima turned himself in and was charged with two counts of obtaining money under false pretenses under $1,500. He pleaded nolo contendere to his charges and was sentenced to one year of probation. Barrington Police Chief Michael Correia stated that the police union did not authorize the use of the Lane family to solicit donations. The victims have been fully reimbursed, and anyone who believes they were victims of this scheme is encouraged to contact the Barrington Police Department.
