Survey reveals that more than 57% of corporate men in India have vitamin B12 deficiency

A recent study by MediBuddy has revealed a silent health crisis among corporate professionals in India, with over 57% of men and almost 50% of women suffering from vitamin B12 deficiency. The survey, conducted on 4,400 urban corporate employees, identified inadequate dietary intake as a major cause of the deficiency, exacerbated by demanding work schedules, erratic eating habits, and high stress levels. Vitamin B12, primarily found in animal products, poses a particular risk for vegetarians.

The deficiency, crucial for energy and brain function, often goes unnoticed until severe symptoms such as chronic fatigue, tingling sensations, memory problems, and mood swings arise. Factors such as a sedentary lifestyle, work stress, excessive alcohol and caffeine consumption, and weakened gut health due to chronic stress contribute to worsening B12 levels.

However, it is possible to reverse B12 deficiency through small dietary and lifestyle changes. Including B12-rich foods in daily meals, reducing caffeine and alcohol consumption, taking short breaks at work, managing stress, and ensuring proper gut health are recommended strategies. Supplementing with Vitamin B12 is suggested only if dietary intake is insufficient.

Experts advise regular monitoring through annual B12 tests, especially for vegetarians, those experiencing chronic fatigue, or individuals with digestive issues. Early detection and timely intervention can prevent severe symptoms from occurring. By prioritizing nutrition and wellness, corporate professionals can safeguard their health and well-being in the long run.
