Rhode Island physician deported to Lebanon despite federal court order while no one intervened

Family and friends of Dr. Rasha Alaweih, a physician from Rhode Island, have accused authorities of trying to deport her at all costs. Despite a federal court order aimed at preventing her immediate deportation, her plane was allowed to depart from Boston’s Logan International Airport. Dr. Alaweih, who had been working in the US for six years, was detained upon returning from Lebanon due to a minor visa issue, despite having a valid H-1B visa.

Supporters of Dr. Alaweih swiftly filed a complaint in US District Court, Massachusetts, against the Department of Homeland Security and Customs and Border Protection officials. The complaint alleged unlawful detention and a lack of communication with attorneys. Although a court order was issued to prevent her departure from Massachusetts without 48 hours’ notice, Dr. Alaweih is currently in detention at the Paris airport, awaiting a flight to Lebanon. Her family and friends argue that she is being treated unfairly and unjustly, considering her accomplishments as a doctor and adherence to visa regulations.
