Woman confesses to attempting to sell dog-vomited human toes

In Australia, a woman named Joanna Kathlyn Kinman narrowly avoided jail time for attempting to sell two human toes that had been regurgitated by dogs at the animal shelter where she worked. The dogs had eaten parts of their deceased owner’s body after he died of natural causes. Kinman took the toes home, believing she could sell them online for profit. When police found out, they discovered other unusual items in her possession including an alligator claw, a bird skull, and her children’s teeth. She was part of a Facebook group called “Bone Buddies Australia” where such items were bought, sold, and traded.

Kinman pleaded guilty to offensive conduct involving human remains in court and was sentenced to an 18-month non-custodial sentence with 150 hours of community service. The magistrate described her actions as “astounding” and “entirely odd,” and warned her of the consequences of such behavior. Her lawyer stated that she regretted her actions and had faced public shame and job loss as a result. Kinman did not comment to the media outside of the court.
