President Donald Trump has issued a memo revoking security clearances and access to classified information for former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, former Vice President Kamala Harris, and several other officials. The memo states that it is no longer in the national interest for these individuals to have access to classified information. This directive extends to 15 individuals, including former Reps. Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger, former Secretary of State Antony Blinken, former national security adviser Jake Sullivan, and New York Attorney General Letitia James, as well as any members of the Biden family.
Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard had already revoked many of these individuals’ security clearances earlier this month. The State Department had previously indicated that Clinton had her security clearance withdrawn in 2018 at her request, although it is unclear if it was later reinstated. Trump has also cut off former President Joe Biden’s access to intelligence information and terminated Secret Service protection for Biden’s adult children, Hunter and Ashley Biden.
This move follows Trump’s previous actions in January when he rescinded the security clearance of at least 50 former intelligence officials who signed a letter during the 2020 campaign implicating a laptop belonging to Hunter Biden in a possible Russian information operation. The memo also states that those named will not have access to classified briefings or secure U.S. government facilities without an escort. Representatives for Harris and Clinton did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
