Health officials report that the death toll in Gaza has exceeded 50,000 casualties

Since October 7, 2023, over 50,000 people have been killed in Gaza as a result of Israel’s bombing campaign and ground invasion following a terror attack by Hamas. The Palestinian Health Ministry reports that at least 50,021 people have been killed, representing over 2.1% of Gaza’s population. Many additional victims are trapped under rubble or in inaccessible areas. The World Health Organization has confirmed the credibility of these numbers.

This grim milestone comes after Hamas launched surprise attacks on Israel 18 months ago, resulting in the deaths of 1,200 people and the kidnapping of 240 others. Israel recently broke a two-month ceasefire with Hamas, leading to the resumption of airstrikes and ground operations that have killed nearly 700 people. In response, Israel has threatened to permanently seize parts of Gaza unless Hamas releases the remaining hostages.

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz has pledged to escalate operations until Hamas releases the hostages, including the use of military and civilian pressure, such as relocating Gaza’s population southward and implementing voluntary relocation plans. Hamas is engaged in negotiations with mediators such as President Trump’s envoy, Steve Witkoff, to secure a prisoner exchange deal that would end the conflict and result in the withdrawal of troops. Hamas remains committed to achieving a peaceful resolution through negotiations.
