The Seed Library event at Laramie County Library in mid-March was a hit, with 600 gardeners picking from 150 types of seeds. For those who missed it, more free seeds are available at the main library and branches in Pine Bluffs and Burns. At the event, Laramie County Master Gardeners shared tips on extending the growing season and starting seeds. Many attendees, ranging from seasoned gardeners to beginners, were eager to learn and share their gardening experiences.
As April approaches, indoor and outdoor gardening tasks begin in Cheyenne. Forced spring bulbs are finishing indoors, while outside, leaf mulch is being lifted to make way for spring bulbs. Amaryllis bulbs and orchids are starting to bloom, and successful experiments with wave petunias are underway.
The process of preparing for planting continues into May, with decisions on cutting back perennial flowers, digging out lawn for more planting space, and the careful process of shuffling pots of vegetable starts in and out of the house to protect them from frost.
Overall, the gardening community in Cheyenne is excited and busy, preparing for a successful growing season ahead. With the support of the library’s Seed Library and the expertise of Master Gardeners, gardeners of all levels are eager to put their knowledge to work and enjoy the beauty of their gardens in the coming months.
